This stage takes place during young adulthood between the ages of approximately 19 and 40. During this period, the major conflict centers on forming intimate, loving relationships with other people. Success at this stage leads to fulfilling relationships. Failure, on the other hand, can result in feelings of loneliness and isolation. At each point in a person’s life, he or she faces a developmental conflict that must be resolved. People who overcome these conflicts are able to achieve psychological skills that ultimately last the rest of a person’s life. Those who fail to master these challenges will continue to struggle. One thing that made Erikson’s theory unique is that unlike many other developmental theories, the psychosocial stages look at how people change and grow over the course of the entire lifetime. These adult stages continue to play an important role in each individuals development. This sixth stage of development begins in early adulthood and is centered on the formation of lasting relationships. Those who are successful at this stage are able to forge deep relationships and social connections with other people. What Happens During This Stage Erikson believed it was vital that people develop close, committed relationships with other people. These emotionally intimate relationships as people enter adulthood play the critical role in the intimacy versus isolation stage. Such relationships are often romantic in nature, but Erikson believed that close friendships were also important. Erikson described intimate relationships as those characterized by closeness, honesty, and love. Success Strong and deep romantic relationships Close relationships with friends and family Failure Poor romantic relationships No deep intimacy Loneliness and isolation People who are successful in resolving the conflict of the intimacy versus isolation stage are able to develop deep, meaningful relationships with others. They have close, lasting romantic relationships, but they also forge strong relationships with family and friends. Success leads to strong relationships, while failure results in loneliness and isolation. Adults who struggle with this stage experience poor romantic relationships. They might never share deep intimacy with their partners or might even struggle to develop any relationships at all. This can be particularly difficult as these individuals watch friends and acquaintances fall in love, get married, and start families. Those who struggle to form intimacy with others are often left feeling lonely and isolated. Some individuals may feel particularly lonely if they struggle to form close friendships with others. Important Tasks at This Stage Learning to be open and sharing with others is an important part of the intimacy versus isolation stage. Some of the other important tasks that can play a role in success or failure at this point of development include: Sharing part of the self with others while still maintaining a strong sense of self-identity.Being intimate. This is more than just engaging in sex; it means forging emotional intimacy and closeness. Intimacy does not necessarily have to be with a sexual partner. People can also gain intimacy from friends and loved ones.Making commitments to others. Part of being able to form strong relationships involves being able to commit to others for the long-term.Caring about the needs of others. Relationships are reciprocal. Getting love is important at this stage, but so is giving it. A Sense of Self Contributes to Intimacy or Isolation While psychosocial theory is often presented as a series of neatly defined, sequential steps, it is important to remember that each stage contributes to the next. For example, Erikson believed that having a fully formed sense of self (established during the identity versus confusion stage) is essential to being able to form intimate relationships. I conducted a survey and three interviews to create a documentary on tattoos and how they affect human relationships and interactions. This paper is an analysis of what it takes to make a documentary. Documentary originates from the word document which means a film or article that records factual information. Documentary means to present facts objectively without editing and adding fictional information (Stott 6). Some of the first documents are from Benjamin Glassberg in 1938 and Saunders Redding 1951 before the word documentary was even created (Stott 6). At first, a documentary was known as a human document because it had emotional ties to the information though it was factual information (Stott 7). Emotion itself is completely subjective because not every person in the world will have the same emotion to the same event. Thus giving birth to two different kinds of documentaries official and human. In 1938, photography was introduced into the world of documentaries by providing pho tographic proof of factual information. After my second year in high school, I made a decision that would turn out to be life changing. This decision wasn’t life changing in the way that getting married or going to college would be, but I really learned a lot about myself that summer. What I’m about to tell you is what happened when I switched from Marching Band to Football. Switching from Marching Band to Football after my Sophomore year of high school changed the way I saw myself because I found I have a strong enough will to follow my heart despite controversy with others, I have a strong desire to be in control of my life, and I have an aggressive side that had not shown itself before. While making the decision to change from one activity to another, my own self- reliance and confidence really took over and helped me to deal with the controversy among my friends and teammates. My friends and band director wanted me to stay in the marching band because I was a section leader with three years of experience ho was up for the Drum Major position. Naturally, this put me under a lot of social pressure. On top of that, my new teammates on the football team weren’t exactly thrilled to have a tuba player trying out for the team. They used to make fun of me quite a bit, until I proved myself out on the field, that is. Another significant hurdle was telling my parents that I wanted to switch. I knew that my parents said they would support me in any decision I make, that isn’t life threatening, but I wasn’t sure if they would condone me playing football, which is probably one of the most angerous sports in the world if you don’t practice proper technique. The fact that I was able to deal with all this and still stick to my guns showed me I was strong enough to follow my heart and cut my own path. Especially after considering the craziest part out of this whole thing, before this I never had been one to go against the grain. I had been a people pleaser my whole life and was afraid of making anyone mad at me. So, now that IVe explained the situation I found myself in, the reason I put myself in that position was because of a realization I had while sitting in the stands with the and at a football game during my sophomore year. I realized that I didn’t enjoy sitting on the sidelines watching the action happen. I wanted to be out there in the middle of it. It made me think about how I always took the path of least resistance in every aspect of my life. I was always trying to make everyone around me happy when I wasn’t completely happy myself. Watching that football game, I felt like I was the stands watching it go by, powerless to influence to course of fate. This mindset is what helped me to strengthen my will to follow my heart and do what I wanted to do. That night, I discovered my desire to have control of the direction my life was going in. On top of wanting to steer my life in the direction I wanted, that night I also discovered that I have an aggressive side that makes want to prove what I’m worth, fght to win, and be remembered. In every sport I’d ever done up to that point in my life, from Baseball to Karate to Wrestling, every single one of my coaches I’d ever had told me that I don’t have a mean bone in my body, and I thought they were right. I always had a hard time with being competitive because I didn’t want to hurt anyone nd I was somewhat content to sit in the dugout or on the sidelines unless subbed in. That is, until I had this self-realization one day in the stands. After that, a fire lit in my belly that hadn’t been there before and I was ready to show everyone what I could do. This fire didn’t go away and, actually, still hasn’t to this day. And so, I Joined the football team and said good bye to the marching band as my first official act of taking control of my life. Looking back, I don’t regret being in the marching band for three years, but I do ish I had played football all four years of my high school career. Unfortunately, I never felt the urge to play until that moment of self-realization that my life would pass me by if I didn’t take hold, that night in the stands. And I never would have had the determination to follow my heart without that fiery passion in my gut that was ignited that night. Badly injured after a car accident on a mountain, Lyman learns to his distress that his hospitalization has brought together for the first time in nine years of bigamy his two wives: the older Theo (Gemma Jones) and the 30-ish Leah (Clare Higgins). What ensues begins as a comedy of morality and quickly collapses into an agonized sermon. Im miserable, lost, condemned, Lyman wails into the void, finally left with no one but the nurse (Marsha Hunt) for comfort. He cleverly leaves out the self-assessment which most audiences will all too happily make for him   Lyman Felt is an unabashed shit. I have to consent to Lyman and to condemn him, Miller told interviewer Melvyn Bragg in a TV special aired shortly after the Oct. 31 opening. But the condemnation barely exists. To be sure, each of the wives gets a you are monstrous diatribe, but they are hard to take seriously coming from such outright types. Theo is the repressed ministerss daughter, the high-minded gentile acted by Jones on a sustained note of shrillness; Leah, the libidinous Jew, is appealing in Higginss capable hands though no less a cliche. Its interesting to note that the casting fudges a potential source of odium: If, as the script indicates, there really is a two-decade age difference between Lyman and Leah, then the latter would be about the same age as his daughter by Theo, a parallel which makes his midlife lust seem particularly suspect. But Miller is far too interested in exonerating Lyman ever to put him on the rack.Director Blakemore has repeatedly shown a sympathetic deftness with new scripts that eludes him here. My senses are elevated as the front door opens. The mob waiting outside begins pouring in. The sounds of laughter and inquiries of, â€Å"Is anyone home,† began to fill the hollow house. I have no difficulty determining what the mob desires. Hugs, kisses, and, â€Å"How are yous,† are expressed between myself, and the mob. That’s right, the Posey’s have arrived unexpectedly to surprise my two brothers and me for a day of food and football. Nephews and nieces jump down from the arms that hold then to run through the house looking for the horse size dogs, Diesel and Vegas, which are now at the top of the basement steps, just waiting for one of the little ones to open the door and set them free. Free to knock down as many little people as possible and greet them with snorts and slobber. Diesel and Vegas are my two boxers that are well behaved after they have the chance to run and greet every new comer in the house, which could take awhile. After all the love and affection subside, it is time to prepare the great feast that mom and granny have brought with them. The rest of the cooking will take place in the kitchen were only granny is allowed. No one is to bother granny while she cooks, it’s the law were she comes from. Meanwhile, the rest of the family heads downstairs into the twelve hundred square foot basement. There we have set up a game room with a pool table, ping-pong, and air hockey. The room would not be complete without a selection of TV’s for sporting events. The basement itself looks like a traditional basement, lined with cylinder blocks, and an unfinished ceiling, that has exposed pipes and wiring. As the TV’s are turned on and many games commence for a Saturday of college football, games begin between competitive siblings as well. Profile of Stanley Woodard, NASA Aerospace Engineer Dr. Stanley E Woodard, is an aerospace engineer at NASA Langley Research Center. Stanley Woodard received his doctorate in mechanical engineering from Duke University in 1995. Woodard also has bachelors and masters degrees in engineering from Purdue and Howard University, respectively. Since coming to work at NASA Langley in 1987, Stanley Woodard has earned many NASA awards, including three Outstanding Performance Awards and a Patent Award. In 1996, Stanley Woodard won the Black Engineer of the Year Award for Outstanding Technical Contributions. In 2006, he was one of four researchers at NASA Langley recognized by the 44th Annual RD 100 Awards in the electronic equipment category. He was a 2008 NASA Honor Award Winner for exceptional service in the research and development of advanced dynamics technologies for NASA missions. And we can completely encapsulate them in any electrically nonconductive material, so they can be put in lots of different locations and protected from the environment around them. Plus we can measure different properties using the same sensor. NASA Langley scientists initially came up with the idea of the measurement acquisition system to improve aviation safety. They say airplanes could use this technology in a number of locations. One would be fuel tanks where a wireless sensor would virtually eliminate the possibility of fires and explosions from faulty wires arcing or sparking. Another would be landing gear. That was where the system was tested in partnership with landing gear manufacturer, Messier-Dowty, Ontario, Canada. A prototype was installed in a landing gear shock strut to measure hydraulic fluid levels. The technology allowed the company to easily measure levels while the gear was moving for the first time ever and cut the time to check the fluid level from five hours to one second. Traditional sensors use electrical signals to measure characteristics, such as weight, temperature, and others. NASAs new technology is a small hand-held unit that uses magnetic fields to power sensors and gather measurements from them. That eliminates wires and the need for direct contact between the sensor and the data acquisition system. Measurements that were difficult to do before because of implementation logistics and environment are now easy with our technology, said Woodard.
